Tom O’Coin has served as the Executive Director of International Student House (ISH) of Washington, DC since 2010. He has had a 32 year career in nonprofit management, fundraising, special events, contract administration and program development.
Prior to joining ISH, Mr. O’Coin served as Vice President for Development of America Abroad Media (AAM) from 2008 to 2010. AAM produces a monthly international affairs radio program featured on National Public Radio (NPR) and television programming in the Muslim world. Mr. O’Coin was instrumental in expanding AAM’s donor base to include financial support from corporations and US Government Agencies.
For over 25 years, Mr. O’Coin was with Meridian International Center in Washington, DC where he served in a number of senior management positions including Vice President for Development and Special Events, Vice President for Education and Visitor Services, and Director of World Affairs Programs. In his role as Vice President for Development and Special Events, Mr. O’Coin directed all activities and logistics related to the annual Meridian Ball including securing support from foreign embassies and corporate sponsorship. During this tenure in this role, revenue produced by the annual Ball increased from $200,000 to $1 million.
While with Meridian, he was instrumental in establishing the organization’s longtime contractual agreements with the US Department of State’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research, the US Trade & Development Agency, The National Institutes of Health, the Smithsonian Institution and the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. Mr. O’Coin also served as the organization’s liaison with foreign embassies and US Congressional offices.
